The Chief Technology Officer plays a leadership role where they oversee all the activities of the engineering, infrastructure and product teams. They will be responsible and accountable for the executive oversight of all aspects of engineering operations, service delivery, and management across the technology estate.
The CTO will articulate and set the vision and strategy for technology while ensuring that they are in line with the business’s core vision, mission, and values.
The CTO will manage and direct business technologies, infrastructure services, production operations, technological architecture, digital development, site and software development.
They will lead the engineering department in planning the achievement of business goals through the fostering of innovation, prioritisation of engineering initiatives, and coordinating the deployment, evaluation, and management of the current and future technological systems across the business.
They are accountable for the efficiency of the department as well as the effective delivery of services and solutions. In this position, the Chief Technology Officer also plays mentorship role to key team members, encouraging their professional growth, essentially developing their ultimate successor.
The role of the Chief Technology Officer is a collaborative one and in this position, they will create a healthy and collaborative environment within the 3 strands of technology (Product, Engineering and Infrastructure). The Chief Technology Officer works with the leadership team and the board in developing and communicating top-level goals across the business.
The CTO will be the trusted advisor for the rest of the leadership team and other key stakeholders in matters of technological nature.
Service Delivery & Support
The Chief Technology Officer is tasked with ensuring consistent and high-quality service delivery and support for all core technology processes and services, enabling smooth daily operations across all sites, services and applications lines, both internal and customer-facing. In this capacity, the Chief Technology Officer develops complex technology infrastructure and will anticipate capability challenges, alongside communicating clear proactive plans in order to address technological challenges across the business.
The Chief Technology Officer will be a master in their field and have a profile externally, providing thought leadership to external groups. In addition to this leadership they will maintain knowledge of best practices and industry trends outside of their subject expertise adopting the most suitable trends, leading and enabling constant improvement in technological services, both internal and consumer-facing.
